One of Africa’s smallest countries is also one of its poorest; about 13 million people call Malawi home. The AIDS rate among women is 30%, which, among other things, results in approximately 100,000 children becoming infected each year. In addition, there are around half a million AIDS orphans. Among the various ministries of Liebenzell missionaries Johannes and Vroni Urschitz is a kindergarten project, giving children the opportunity to be better prepared for school, while sharing the gospel message and stories from the Bible. Missionaries are also training local workers and working with our partner church to transfer the completely to national believers. With the first kindergarten in Songa up and running well, the time has come to begin a second one. Thousands of miles away in Germany, the bazaar was a success, raising over 1,400 euros (about $2,000) from selling toys, clothing and refreshments. The idea has spread to other churches too. Mission Director Martin Auch noted another positive outcome; parents setting an example for their children of what can be done to help proclaim the Good News. |

After a group of nursery school parents in Germany heard a report on the ministry to children in Malawi, they asked, “What can we do to help?” The answer was, a lot. A group of parents for the church nursery school in Marienstift, Germany, organized a children's clothing and toy bazaar. Proceeds went to support the kindergarten project in Malawi.
