From Toronto, Canada, missionary Markus Gommel excitedly reports on a special delivery which arrived recently – Bibles printed in the Bengali language. “The translation is very good and the injil kitab (New Testament) is in Bengali and English,” notes Gommel. “This is very helpful if you’d like to do a Bible study with friends who love their Bangla language but you might not know it – you can look it up in English too!” Gommel believes the Bibles will be very well received in the Bengali community.

Markus and Regina Gommel arrived in Canada in 2005, to take over the work among Bengalis living in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) from the two missionaries who began it. About 12,000 people from Bangladesh live in the Toronto area. The Gommels work with the Bangladeshi Christian Fellowship to encourage believers to become an active part of their church, and to share their faith with second and third generation Bengalis. They also work with the Bangladeshi Muslim Ministry; this effort includes LEAH English classes, Mayashows, the Bangla Social Club, Can Bangla, and Adam House.
