This fall thirty-nine new students began their training at the Bible school in Muramvya, Burundi. The three-year course includes both classroom time and practical in-the-church experience. The group of young – and not-so-young – students includes several men who have served as volunteer pastors in some of the rural churches. When they complete the course they will be able to serve in our partner church as ordained deacons. Most classes are taught by pastors within the Anglican Church. (By comparison, the first three-year class, starting in 2008, began with only 16 students.)Alex and Tabea Biskup write, “We enjoy inviting the students over to sit talk about the classes, the church, and the common sharing of the fortunes of the various churches and communities. This is also a good opportunity for us to get to know them better. It will be interesting to see how many people stay with the course and work in full time ministry in the future.” |
