That is why Dr. Esther Pflaum is very thankful for recently answered prayer, Samuel G., the hospital’s new pharmacist. “He has completed Bible school, is the leader of a small church association and had previously run a private pharmacy,” writes Pflaum. “He has settled in very well and is the right man for this no-so-simple job. For now, he still commutes almost 20 miles day to work. I recently visited his home for his youngest son’s dedication and was rather surprised by his house and yard. They even have a water pump! Only then did I realize the sacrifice he and his wife are making by moving into the more primitive circumstances in Galmi! Please pray that they might find a suitable house and the right school for their children.” |

The Galmi Hospital in the poor African nation of Niger is place of coming and going – not only of patients but also of the staff. Volunteer medical staff come and go on assignments of various lengths. The turnover in national staff is usually caused by the low wages which the hospital pays; most leave for better paying jobs elsewhere. The constant turnover in staff is disruptive, especially when key positions go unfilled for long periods of time.
