“Our church has a big heart for people who are not familiar with the Christian faith,” notes Farr. “We were getting a lot of questions about everything in the service – the songs, the sermon: ‘what's happening and what does it mean?’” For the curious, the Jesus.unplugged church has created a multi-part course. “In it, we teach the basics of the faith and point to ways in which you can discover for yourself a path to the God of the Bible,” shares Farr. The book – called glauben.finder (“faith finder” in German) – is a work book which guides participants to discover who God is, and to talk openly about what this means in their lives. In each chapter begins with a section called "thinking," which provides specific starting points to get into conversation. Each chapter ends with a compact summary of what was read. Farr says the book is specifically designed knowing that participants can’t usually attend every gathering over a period of time. They can even work through the book on their own, with a spouse, family or friends. Farr also wants to distribute the book to those who may never commit to coming to the course regularly. |

It’s a good question, one that probably doesn’t get asked often enough. In the case of missionary Dirk Farr, it’s a matter of ministry. Farr leads the church-plant project in the Treptow section of Berlin, Germany. Although it’s been more than twenty years since the fall of the Berlin wall, the legacy of nearly a half-century of communist ideology has left behind a population with very little knowledge about the things of God.
