Japan: Church planter and missionary pastor
Liebenzell is looking for missionary couples willing to serve as church planters and missionary pastors in Japan. There is a shortage of pastors in Japan, especially outside of t
he large cities where small congregations (20-40 members) struggle to support full-time clergy.
Liebenzell partners with the Japan Evangelical Church Association (JECA), a loose association of 175 churches. with a basic theological conception but without power. Liebenzell is also a member of SLOT, a loosely organized cooperative effort of four mission agencies: Send, Liebenzell, OMF, and Team.
Fluency in Japanese is a must; language training will take the first two years. A master’s degree is required; some pastoral experience would be helpful. We are looking for married couples for this ministry.

Liebenzell missionaries first arrived on Manus Island (off the northern coast of Papua New Guinea) in 1914; the Evangelical Church of Manus (ECoM) is now a fully independent church association. The Maria Molnár Bible Training College (BTC) was established to train pastors and church leaders. The school offers one-, two- and four-year programs, and a separate class for the wives of married students. The school usually has 20-30 students and is located on the mission station in Lugos.
A Master’s degree in Bible or related subject is required. All teaching is done in English, although you will find it helpful to learn Pidgin. Since English is a second language for many of the students, you may need to provide a bit of English instruction as well. Housing is available on the school grounds. |
